What is Fractional CO2?

Fractional CO2 is a laser resurfacing approach used to improve the appearance of selected scars and irregular skin texture.

Avant Clinics uses the DEKA SmartXide Touch C60, a carbon-dioxide laser system operating at 10,600 nm. It allows the physician to control the delivery, depth and thermal effect of treatment according to the individual case.

Instead of treating the entire skin surface in one continuous field, fractional delivery creates microscopic treatment columns while leaving surrounding areas untreated. This pattern supports healing and tissue renewal.

How does Fractional CO2 work?

The laser creates precise treatment points at a depth and intensity selected by the physician. The skin then begins a repair response that includes collagen remodelling, so changes may continue to develop over the following weeks and months.

Treatment depth and intensity may be adjusted according to:

• The concern and depth of scarring
• Treatment area and skin thickness
• Skin tone and tendency toward pigmentation
• Acceptable recovery period
• Previous treatments and whether combination therapy is planned

Uses of Fractional CO2

Fractional CO2 may be considered within plans intended to improve:

• Selected depressed acne scars
• Certain scars following injury or a previous procedure
• Uneven skin texture
• Fine lines
• The visible appearance of pores as texture improves
• Selected signs of sun damage after clinical assessment

Fractional CO2 for acne scars

“Acne scars” describes several scar shapes and depths. Their presence does not mean that Fractional CO2 is the right stand-alone treatment for every patient.

Some cases may require a combined plan involving scar-release techniques, radiofrequency microneedling or other physician-selected procedures. The objective is to treat the scar type rather than select a device by name alone.

Suitability and recovery

Skin tone, tendency toward post-inflammatory pigmentation, active inflammation, sun exposure and current medication all affect treatment decisions. Patients at higher risk of pigmentation require careful assessment, preparation and aftercare.

Recovery depends on treatment depth, intensity and area. Redness, warmth, mild swelling, dryness or peeling may occur to varying degrees. The physician explains the expected recovery and care instructions before treatment.
